Hi John with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at Blue Ox Direct Connect Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms that we've installed on our 2018 Chevrolet Malibu LT. Now when it comes to flat towing, you're gonna need more than just a base plate. There's actually a number of components, especially if you're gonna be flat towing the Chevy Malibu. I mean you're going to need a tow bar, you're going to need diode wiring, some sort of supplemental braking system, some safety cables, and of course the base plate. And namely, this is what we're gonna be looking at specifically today, in this video, is the Blue Ox base plate. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today, on our 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms. So, here's what our base plate looks like once we have it fully installed. Our base plate is gonna be the attachment point where our tow bar is gonna hook up to, so we can safely and securely flat tow our Malibu down the road. What you're really gonna like about the base plate is the fact that when we're not towing, we can pull on this tab, right here, the arm will rotate, and then we can pull it out and we'll have a very inconspicuous look. Like most base plates, we're gonna have our safety cable connection points, right here, next to the arms. And as you can see, we'll have plenty of room to get those hooks on or off and not have to worry about fighting the grill or any part of the car. more

Here's what our base plate looks like installed. Now the reason that you're going to want a base plate for your Malibu is that this will serve as the connection point for your two bars so you can safely two your Malibu behind your motor home. Now what's great about this base plate is it does have removable arms. So as you see it right now, this is with the arms removed. This maintains a nice clean look on your Malibu when you're not flat towing it.When you're ready to flat tow, you can simply take your arm, insert it with this tab at a horizontal angle, rotate it 90 degrees, and your arm will lock into place. more

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Malibu we're going to be taking a look at an installing the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, part number RM-523178-5. Here's what this base plate is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see it maintains a very nice clean look on the front. All you're really able to see that stands out is these safety chain connections points here and they don't come out very far past the fascia here. Everything is going to stay pretty well hidden when it's not in use. You've got your two mounting rods for your electrical connection here in order to operate the vehicle's lights. more

Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit Installation - 2002 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today on our 2002 Chevrolet Malibu we're going to show you part number 194-3. This is the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit with removable arms. All right now this is what the Base Plate looks like when it's installed on the vehicle. It does hang below the bottom edge of the bumper so you can't see it all the way, but at least you do not have to do any trimming or cutting on the grill or the bumper cover. As angle on 00:26 body, that goes to the receiver right here and it uses four existing bolts already in the vehicle and plus one additional hole that's already existing in the vehicle so there's actually no drilling required. The Base Plate and the removable arm are both powder coasted for protection. How do they connect together is with 5/8 hitch pin and clip. When we want to remove them, we'll go ahead and pull out the pin and clip like so. more

Today on our 2012 Chevy Malibu, we'll be installing the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1679.Speaker 2: I'll go ahead and do a demonstration of installing the removable arms. We'll line up the arm with the base plate tube, slide it in, and turn until it locks into position. Take the removable arm out of the base plate or simply pull back on the locking ring releasing the pin. Rotate the removable arm, it will release from the base plate, then we can install the receiver cap plug to keep out the dust, dirt, and debris.To begin our install, we'll first need to remove the front fascia. To do this, we'll go ahead and raise the hood and remove the top cover between the fascia and front core support. Theyre 00:00:56 multiple bolts and push pin fasteners. more

Blue Ox Base Plate Kit Installation - 2010 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today on our 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, we'll be installing the Blue Ox base plate kit with removable arms, part number BX1679. We're going to begin by raising the hood on the vehicle. From the driver's side, we'll need to remove six bolts, as well as two push fasteners. Over here on the passenger side, we'll need to remove five bolts and two push fasteners. We'll be using a 10mm socket, as well as a trim panel removal tool or a large flat head screwdriver. We'll go ahead and the bolts and push fasteners aside as they will be reinstalled later. Now, we can go ahead and lift this section of plastic out of the way. Next, we're going to go here at each of the wheel wells. more

Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2011 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today on this 2011 Chevy Malibu were going to install part number 523145-5 from Roadmaster. First thing we need to do is get up underneath the hood and we need to remove the shroud from the radiator cover. There will be a variety of fasteners that well have to remove all the way around the edge of it. Therell be combination of bolts and plastic rivets. Next well go down by the fender well and remove three plastic fasteners that attach the fender liner to the corner of the fascia. Well also remove a 10 millimeter bolt attaching the corner of the fascia to the fender and the bolt will be pointing upwards at a little bit of an angle so its a little bit hard to see. more

Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2012 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today, we're going to work on a 2012 Chevy Malibu. We're going to be installing the Roadmaster Base Plates, part number 523145-5. For the easy installation, we've gone ahead and jacked up the vehicle, removed the front wheels and opened the hood. Our first step is going to be removing the upper plastic piece that covers the radiator and core support. We've got some bolts to remove and plastic fasteners. I'll start with my plastic fasteners. more

Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Malibu- Video
Today on this 2007 Chevrolet Malibu we are going to install part number 523120-1 from Roadmaster, the EZ Base Plate Kit. The first thing we need to do is open up the hood and get some fasteners so we can take off the front bumper cover. There will be some fasteners on the top and the bottom. With the rivets we just have to unscrew the top part of them and we will pop up the bottom half. When it does not unscrew very easily, pull up on the plastic a little to bind it up and that might help back out the screw. Now we are underneath the vehicle starting over on the driver side. We are going to take out these 7 millimeter fasteners and work our way all the way around the edge of the bumper. There is also four plastic rivets we need to remove along the way too. Lets remove this plastic part here with these two rivets and then we will go back to the original rivets we were going to take out before. Now that you can see the plastic rivets remove these four too. Next we are going to remove these two little panels right here, these little rivets and that will give us a more room to take off the bumper cover easier. 01:38 more
